Your Home Away From Home

Duncan Hall is a gift from the late Raymond T. Duncan and was completed in 2008. Our mascot is the Highlander, which is a tribute to the Duncan Family’s Scottish lineage.

Location

We are located on the west end of West Quad and are the only dorm overlooking the Burke Golf Course. Despite being nestled by the golf course, Duncan is only a minute walk to South Dining Hall and the Rockne Memorial Gym. We also enjoy being adjacent to McGlinn fields, a multi-purpose grass area that is used for section sports and West Quad events (ie WestFest). The bookstore and its infamous basketball courts (Bookstore Basketball) are also within a minute walk from Duncan Hall.

Signature Events

We are known for several traditions on campus, most visibly our green blazers that we wear on Football Fridays. Highlander Highrise is our signature winter formal that takes place at the top floor of Chicago’s tallest building, the Willis Tower. Other fun events we host throughout the year include SYR, Duncan/Ryan Week, Masters Week, ND110, The Dunkies, Parents Weekend, and many more.

Your Next Steps

In addition to keeping up with the University’s summer to-do list, we suggest you begin preparing now for your move to campus. Although not required, it is a good idea to reach out to your roommate(s) to coordinate what items you are going to bring. We have provided more information about room size, furniture, and mailing below to help you out. If you have any questions, contact your section RA or one of the Welcome Weekend captains listed at the bottom of this page. We’re here to help!

  • Ah, the most important question for an incoming Domer. Usually the ticket office opens the registration for student season tickets toward the end of the summer. Keep your eyes peeled for an email.

  • If you have demonstrated financial need, the University may cover your student activity expenses.

The Student Experience Fund of the Division of Student Affairs was created to aid students with demonstrated financial need. Click here to see if you qualify for free football tickets, school supplies purchases, and more.

  • Lucky for you, South Dining Hall is only a minute away.

  • The Welcome Weekend schedule will give you plenty of opportunities to meet other first year students. Be open to new experiences and don't be afraid to introduce yourself!

View the Welcome Weekend schedule here.

  • As part of Welcome Weekend, the University throws a large dance/mixer event to celebrate your arrival and also to give you an opportunity to meet other first years. The event usually takes place outside the Duncan Student Center and features a DJ and food trucks.

  • Last year, former Rector Nhat Nguyen announced he would be leaving to pursue the priesthood after ten outstanding years of service to Duncan Hall. The University has announced that Nic Schoppe will be the next rector. Duncan Hall is in good hands!

  • Duncan Hall has a small gym in the basement that can be used for most strength exercises. If you want more equipment to choose from, the Rockne Memorial Gym is only a minute walk from Duncan Hall. The Smith Center inside the Duncan Student Center is also a great place to work out and is located closer to academic buildings.

  • The Duncan Grille is here to satisfy your late-night cravings. Located in the Duncan Main Lounge (aka the "two-four"), the Duncan Grille is known for its signature quesadillas. It also serves pizza bites, nachos, and ice cream.
